Our province-wide programs provide opportunities for training in subjects ranging from the diversity of basic biomedical sciences to clinical and health services research. We pursue the highest standards of scholarship and innovation, and prepare learners for evidence-based practice, critical reflection, lifelong learning and an ability to deliver service in a highly professional manner.

Audiology 1

Audiology & Speech Sciences

The School of Audiology and Speech Sciences offers a PhD program in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology. The program opens many doors, both inside and outside of academia, and provides the skills to carry out one’s own research, as well as to participate in research teams.

The Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Program is part of UBC’s Life Sciences Institute. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from a wide range of disciplines.

Centre for Blood Research

Cell & Developmental Biology

Offers opportunities for advanced study and research in cell and developmental biology through a coordinated program of studies. The program is flexible and is intended to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of students and the broad nature of research in cell and developmental biology.

The study of the pathogenesis and treatment of disease. Specialties include: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Medical Immunology, Medical Oncology, Molecular Biology, Nephrology, Neurology and Respiratory Medicine.

Interdisciplinary Oncology

Designed to appeal to a broad range of students interested in cancer research.

Medical Genetics

Offers advanced study and research in the areas of human molecular genetics, genome analysis, developmental genetics, gene therapy, cytogenetics, oncogenetics, immunogenetics, genetic epidemiology, genetics of common disorders, and clinical genetics.

Neuroscience

Neuroscience

A multidisciplinary program administered under the Faculty of Medicine and the Brain Research Centre at UBC.

Pathology & Laboratory Medicine

Trains students with varied backgrounds in science and medicine including: biochemistry, physiology, cell biology and microbiology/immunology.

Pharmacology & Therapeutics

Areas of research include: cardiovascular pharmacology, respiratory pharmacology, neuropharmacology, clinical pharmacology, anesthesia, biochemical and molecular pharmacology, drug metabolism and disposition.

Rehabilitation Sciences

The study of physical and occupational performance with special emphasis on individuals with impairments and disabilities.

Rehabilitation Sciences Online

Designed for working health professionals who wish to gain the knowledge to impact care and shape future practice.

Reproductive-and-Developmental-Sciences

Reproductive & Developmental Sciences

Provides students with a broad knowledge of mammalian reproductive and developmental biology, and in-depth expertise in at least one area of research.

Surgery

Surgery

Research to advance our knowledge in areas relevant to human health, and to improve clinical care. Applicants must have MD degree or equivalent.

Health Administration

The MHA program integrates skills and ideas unique to health care administration with advanced health care and management concepts.

Health Sciences

The MHSc degree is a professional degree designed to give the graduate strong research methodology skills that can be applied to their academic and clinical interests.

Occupational and Environmental Hygiene

This program leads to professional or research careers that make a difference to community and work environments and to people’s health.

Population and Public Health

Students can pursue thesis research in a wide variety of topics related to the health of populations and the delivery of health services.

Public Health

The MPH prepares students in the areas of public health services, research and evaluation, policy development and program planning, and public health leadership.

Audiology & Speech Sciences

The only program in British Columbia to educate audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Academic and practical teaching allows students to gain both theoretical and hands-on knowledge.

Combined MD/PhD

A 7-year program designed for students who want to pursue a career as clinician-scientists. This program provides highly-qualified students with the opportunity to combine their medical school experience with intensive scientific training.

Genetic Counselling

A unique two year graduate program leading to an MSc degree in Genetic Counselling. The program has full accreditation status by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).

Occupational Therapy

A two-year professional master’s degree program, and the only occupational therapy degree program in British Columbia.

Physical Therapy

A professional entry level program training the next generation of clinicians. Physical therapists specialize in the assessment and treatment related to movement.
